Tips to help consumers resolve Data Matching Issues (DMIs)
Data Matching Issues (DMIs) put your clients at risk of losing coverage and/or financial assistance. Some examples of errors that may cause a DMI to generate include:
- The consumer’s SSN is missing from the application
- Household income information is incomplete or incorrect on the application
- The consumer’s name on the application differs from the way it appears on their citizenship document or another applicable document (e.g., a Social Security card)
- Immigration document numbers and/or ID numbers are missing from the application
Here are 4 quick ways to assist your client if they have a DMI:
- Confirm the DMI. Applicants with a DMI will see an eligibility determination notice (EDN) from the Marketplace.
- Update the Application. Double-check that all information entered on the application is complete and correct. If changes need to be made, re-submit the application with the necessary updates and see if the DMI persists. Check the affected consumer’s communication preferences for notifications to ensure they are receiving the correct information.
- Identify Documents. Check the consumer’s EDN and other notices to confirm which documents need to be submitted and if they are the correct type for the DMI. It may be necessary to submit multiple documents to resolve one DMI.
- Submit Documents. Consumers are encouraged to upload relevant documents and select the document type in the drop-down menu.
Please take action to assist your clients with submitting any required documentation to the Marketplace as soon as possible; most consumers must resolve their issue within 90 days (95 days for Citizenship and Immigration DMIs). If the DMI is not resolved by the deadline provided to the member, they could potentially lose coverage, premium tax credits, and other financial assistance.
To prevent DMIs, be sure to respond accurately to questions regarding the consumer’s citizenship or immigration status during the application process and provide either their SSN or the appropriate number from their immigration document.
